Superman #659 by Kurt Busiek, Fabian Nicieza and Peter Vale

Here’s a well-executed Superman story–a flashback, set in loose continuity (I wonder if writers at DC worry their residuals off trade paperbacks will go south once Didio changes the entire DCU to chimpanzees for two years)–about Superman’s influence on people. It’s a nice story, filled with good scenes and a good handle on the character (I was a little worried because of Nicieza, who hadn’t impressed me much the last Superman story he co-wrote), even if the narration is a little much. Again, another case where Superman’s writing in his journal, yet there’s no indication of what his intent for the writing is–memoir, logbook, scribbles while Lois naps.

In a couple ways, the looseness of time, it reminds me of The Man of Steel, but more centered on Superman’s presence’s effect on humanity.

It’s a good story, a good mainstream superhero issue.
