Swamp Thing #12 by Brian K. Vaughan and Giuseppe Camuncoli

March 27th, 2008 · No Comments

A talking heads issue, mostly. Starting it, I thought Roger Petersen got the worst inker ever (the kind who gave the fifteen year-old girls breast enlargements). No, just a new penciller–Giuseppe Camuncoli, who’s a terrible fit for the book. He can’t do Vaughan’s cinematic scenes and, while his people do look different, their faces just aren’t right.

The issue’s content–if one wants to stretch it–features three story-lines remaining unconnected. There’s the conspiracy tease, another one ending, and then Tefé. As usual, Tefé’s story is idiotic and goofy, but at least–for a brief moment–Vaughan has time to throw in a line about maybe Tefé’s choice for counsel (a high school senior) might not be experienced enough.

And then it’s on to the endless dialogue about the war between plants and people. It never ends. For so much talking, there’s very little to say about the comic….

It’s really a rather terrible issue. As Vaughan’s big surprise at the end, his patented Swamp Thing volume three cliffhanger? Crap.
