Metal Men 7

And now I’m totally confused again. There’s the big fight scene–a scientific fight scene–and the jumbled timelines. I’m lost.

Metal Men 6

Another straightforward issue. Strangely, it’s got the series’s first confusing panel. But I guess I can cut Rouleau the slack.

Metal Men 5

Somehow, this issue feels more like a first than a fifth; because everything’s revealed? The plot is progressing traditionally.

Metal Men 4

Besides the reveal of the unfortunately traditional dilemma, the issue is really confusing. You almost need to be taking notes.

Metal Men 3

So one mystery gets revealed while at least another one starts. The issue only has two timelines; it allows for more narrative.

Metal Men 2

I think I’m following what’s going on–with a one page delay. Rouleau is superb at creating tension in the multiple time lines.

Metal Men 1

Here’s a modern oddity. Intricate, deliberate artwork; the plotting to match. The brief attempt at a fun attitude fails though.

Doctor Strange: The Oath 5

The ending is really cute–enough to make up for most of the issue’s talky nonsense. It should have been better.

Doctor Strange: The Oath 4

There’s a fantastic opening fight scene, but the revelation with the aimless flashback and new villain is goofy.

Doctor Strange: The Oath 3

The plot slowly congeals. Vaughan’s long bad corporation scene is pointless. Can’t get enough of the art though.

Doctor Strange: The Oath 2

Again, lots of good scenes and good details–Strange flirting rocks; Vaughan’s trying to hide his pacing is off.

Doctor Strange: The Oath 1

Beautiful Martin artwork and a solid script from Vaughan. But–though there’s a lot of content–nothing happens.

Narcopolis 4

Delano nicely uses hallucinations and the future-speak to avoid needing a literal close. It’s a fine finish, if underwhelming.

Narcopolis 3

The vanilla art doesn’t match the creepy content. Delano’s story is progressing well–but it is hard to see a full resolution.

Narcopolis 2

Delano gets tons of content into his pages, enough to make up for the slightly generic art. Hope he has room to finish though.

Narcopolis 1

If Delano let up at all and made the issue more understandable, it wouldn’t work. He doesn’t and it does. Off to a good start.

Halloween: 30 Years of Terror

Lots of good artwork–great in a couple cases–but this anthology of revisionist, fill-in stories is a waste.

Detective Comics 504

Newton’s art’s only okay here–his Joker is poor. The writing’s lame–the plot fails at any invention, it’s middling.

The Damned: Prodigal Son 3

So it’s nothing but a setup for the third series? It’s barely–barely–even a full plot, much less a real story.

The Damned: Prodigal Son 2

Some great Hurtt art–the issue’s basically a long action sequence–but the writing’s stretching to find a plot.
